Sisal weaves and where they work

Illustrative sisal inspiration — not photographs of our installations.
Sisal is woven from the fibre of the agave plant. It's hard-wearing, naturally textured and has a crisp, tailored look that suits period cottages and modern homes alike. It's a popular choice for hallways, stairs, landings, studies and living rooms across Surrey.
We supply sisal from Fibre Flooring, Alternative Flooring and Kersaint Cobb, in weaves such as boucle, herringbone and panama, in natural tones and colours. At the free home measure we bring samples so you can see the texture and colour in your own light.
Natural fibres need fitting with care. Sisal is usually fitted over a suitable underlay, or glued down where appropriate, and seams and pattern lines need setting out carefully. We'll explain the right method for your rooms and staircase at the measure.
Across Surrey
Local measuring, preparation and fitting.
We supply and fit sisal carpets throughout Surrey, including Cranleigh, Guildford, Godalming, Dorking, Haslemere, Farnham, Cobham, Esher, Claygate and St George's Hill, plus nearby villages. We also cover West Sussex and Hampshire.
The range
Choosing the right specification.
Boucle weaves
A chunky, looped texture that looks relaxed and hides everyday wear well — a classic for hallways and living rooms.
Herringbone
A tailored chevron pattern that brings structure to long rooms and landings.
Panama & fine weaves
Flatter, finer weaves with a smart, understated finish for studies, bedrooms and dining rooms.
Sisal stair runners
Sisal cut and bound as a stair runner, with taped borders in cotton, linen-look or leather-look, plus optional stair rods.
Sisal-wool blends
Blends with a softer feel underfoot where you want the natural look in a bedroom or snug.
Bound sisal rugs
Made-to-measure rugs with taped edges to sit on wood or LVT floors.
What to consider
Honest advice before you commit.
Not for wet areas
Sisal is a plant fibre and can mark or shrink if it gets very wet, so it isn't suited to kitchens, bathrooms or utility rooms. LVT is the better choice there.
Treat spills quickly
Blot spills straight away rather than rubbing. Many ranges can have a stain-protection treatment — ask us at the measure.
Firmer underfoot
Sisal has a firm, textured feel. If you'd like something softer, we can show you wool-sisal blends or wool natural-look carpets.
Stairs and pets
Sisal is durable on stairs. Pets' claws can snag looped weaves, so a flatter weave is often the better choice for pet owners.

Common questions
Quick answers.
- Is sisal carpet hard-wearing?
- Yes — sisal is one of the toughest natural fibres, which is why it's popular for hallways, stairs and landings.
- Can sisal go on stairs?
- Yes. Sisal works well fitted wall to wall on stairs or as a bound stair runner, with optional stair rods.
- Can sisal be used in a kitchen or bathroom?
- We don't recommend it. Sisal can mark or shrink when it gets very wet, so we'd suggest LVT for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms.
- How do I clean sisal carpet?
- Vacuum regularly with a suction-only setting and blot spills immediately with a dry cloth. Avoid soaking it or steam cleaning. Follow the manufacturer's care guidance for your range.
