Herringbone pattern flooring in a bright kitchen

Herringbone & Parquet

Herringbone Flooring Supplied and Fitted Across Surrey

Herringbone LVT, herringbone wood and chevron floors, set out by hand and fitted across Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire.

Herringbone is the pattern people ask us about more than any other. Laid well, it makes a hallway feel longer, a kitchen feel considered and an open-plan space feel tied together. We fit herringbone vinyl flooring (LVT), engineered wood herringbone and chevron, plus parquet effect designs with borders.

Herringbone LVT from Karndean and Amtico gives the look of a classic parquet floor while staying waterproof and easy to clean — ideal for kitchens, utilities and homes with dogs. Engineered oak herringbone brings the warmth and character of real timber for living rooms, hallways and dining rooms.

The difference between a good herringbone floor and a poor one is set-out. We plan the centre line so the pattern runs true to the main walls and the cuts land evenly at doorways, and we prepare the subfloor properly first — latex screeding and levelling where needed — because any unevenness shows in a pattern floor.

The range

Choosing the right specification.

Real oak blocks on a stable engineered core, in natural, smoked, brushed and oiled finishes.

Herringbone fields framed with a border or feature strip for a traditional parquet look.

What to consider

Honest advice before you commit.

Set-out is everything

We decide where the centre line runs before fitting starts so the pattern sits square to the room.

Subfloor flatness

Pattern floors show every dip. Smoothing and levelling are surveyed at the measure and included in the quote.

LVT or wood?

LVT for kitchens, utilities and pets; engineered wood for living spaces where you want real timber.

More waste, more time

Herringbone takes longer to fit and uses more material than straight planks — worth it, and we price it honestly.

Pricing guidance

What affects your fitted price.

Every home is different, so we price after a free measure rather than advertise a misleading headline rate. Your written quotation itemises the product, preparation, accessories and fitting.

Material

Herringbone LVT and engineered wood blocks vary by range, finish and block size.

Pattern and borders

Chevron, borders and feature strips add fitting time.

Subfloor preparation

Screeding, ply overlay and moisture control are assessed on site.

Room shape

Doorways, islands and multiple rooms affect waste and labour.

Common questions

Quick answers.

Is herringbone LVT or wood better?
Herringbone LVT is waterproof and ideal for kitchens and busy homes; engineered wood herringbone gives real timber warmth for living rooms and hallways. We bring both so you can compare.
Is herringbone more expensive to fit?
Yes, a little — it takes longer to set out and fit and uses more material than straight planks. We explain the difference clearly in your quote.
Can herringbone go over underfloor heating?
Yes. Karndean and Amtico herringbone LVT and suitable engineered wood both work over underfloor heating within the manufacturer's temperature limits.
What's the difference between herringbone and chevron?
Herringbone uses rectangular blocks laid in a staggered zig-zag; chevron uses blocks with angled ends that meet in a clean continuous V.
