The brand

Who Woodpecker are

Woodpecker is a British wood flooring company known for a considered, design-led approach. Their floors are developed in the UK, use responsibly sourced FSC-certified oak and are finished with natural oils and lacquers that let the grain speak for itself. It's a brand that suits period cottages in the Surrey Hills as easily as it suits modern extensions in Guildford or Horsham.

How it's built

Engineered vs solid oak

Most Woodpecker floors are engineered: a thick oak wear layer bonded to a multi-ply base. That construction keeps the boards flat and stable in UK homes, where central heating and moisture levels swing between winter and summer. Solid oak (like Harlech) is stunning and can be sanded back many times, but it needs the right subfloor and environment.

  • Engineered: stable, works over concrete or timber subfloors, compatible with underfloor heating.
  • Solid: the traditional choice, best over timber joists in rooms without UFH.

Finishes and grading

Woodpecker offers a full spread of finishes — from raw and matt-oiled to smoked, brushed and lacquered. Grading ranges from clean and consistent (Prime) through to characterful boards with knots and colour variation (Rustic). We bring the actual boards to your home so you can see the finish alongside your walls, worktops and light.

Underfloor heating

Woodpecker with UFH

Most Woodpecker engineered ranges are compatible with water-based underfloor heating up to a 27°C surface temperature. We always confirm compatibility for the specific product, check subfloor moisture and follow Woodpecker's guidance on acclimatisation and fixing method. Solid wood is not recommended over UFH.

Aftercare

Living with a Woodpecker floor

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly on hard-floor mode to keep grit off the wear layer.
  • Use a barely-damp mop with a wood-floor cleaner such as Woodpecker's own Woca products.
  • Wipe spills quickly — wood is not waterproof; standing liquid is the one thing to avoid.
  • Felt pads on furniture and mats at external doors will keep your floor looking new for years.
Where it works

Best rooms for Woodpecker

We fit a lot of Woodpecker in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms, snugs and open-plan kitchens where wet zones are limited. Herringbone from the Salcombe range is a beautiful choice for entrance halls in period homes across Godalming, Dorking and Cranleigh. For bathrooms, utility rooms and boot rooms we usually recommend Karndean or Amtico LVT instead.
